Justification
Presentation Easel
In my incorporation of visual arts into the classroom, a display easel allows me to bring artwork into the classroom and display it prominently in the room for discussion and analysis.
Japanese Lanterns
These lanterns allow me to create a soft lighting environment for students when they are doing creative projects, reflective writing, and sustained reading. These lights help create a calming atmosphere in the classroom and give the students a break from harsh classroom lighting.
Smart Board w/ projector
The smart board is essential for today’s modern classroom. It allows me to meet the needs of all my students through the integration of media and technology in the classroom. This tool will enhance my presentation options and will help me bring tailor my lessons to students with visual, spatial, and audio learning styles.
Area Rug
This rug will bring warmth and comfort to the classroom and enhance the learning environment. Rugs also increase the acoustic qualities of a room.
Bookshelves (72 inch wide)
Every classroom should have a library for students to check out books for personal reading. The students will be able to choose books from the library for options for book reports and quiet reading opportunities
TV (46'' LCD Vizio)
I will incorporate film, television, and other non-print medias into my curriculum. A large TV will allow all students to clearly see the screen.
DVD Player(w/ blueray)
A DVD player will help me bring in the latest media and film into the classroom.
Laptops (Sony Vaio)
All students will be able to utilize word processing and other open source software for their writing assignments and arts projects.
Stereo(w/ surround sound)
The stereo will allow everyone in the classroom to hear all presentations and video. Audio in the classroom stimulates learners and activates a different part of the brain then just visual presentation. An FM loop can be set-up to help students will hearing disabilities.
Student Desks
These desks adjust for student comfort and learning preference. The desks can be elevated to stimulate a drafting board, useful when students creating concept maps or working on art projects. The desks can connect to other desks for collaborative group work and are not attached to the chairs.
Teacher Desk
My desk will be used as a work station for the HP computer and for paperwork storage.
Bulletin Board (4''x6'')
This space will be used to post articles, photos, author profiles, book reviews, and anything of interest to the class. This space also provides me with space to create time-period piece murals that will set the tone for our class reading.
TV wall mount
Allows the TV to be adjusted to accommodate all classroom viewers.
Inspiron Classroom chairs
These classroom chairs are designed to be supportive yet comfortable. Students cannot enjoy class discussion if they are uncomfortable and restricted. These chairs are also light-weight and easy to move around the classroom. The chair can easily be removed for weigh chair access to the desk.
HP All in One TouchScreen
This computer wirelessly connects to the smart board and allows me to control the board and input information to present to the class.
Dry Erase Calendar
Help students to stay organized and informed about assignments and upcoming due dates.
Teacher Chair
Provides me with a comfortable place to sit as I grade papers and prepare assignments.
White Boards with Sliding Panels
This is an English classroom and writing is the core of the curriculum. A large space is needed to work on our writing and also work on spelling and grammar.
Wall Map of the World
Having a map of the world will help my students keep a global perspective on all of our reading. I will put flags on the map to keep track of the regions that our readings have covered and to mark where the authors are from.
Water Cooler
Having water in the classroom helps students remain hydrated and also eliminates the need to leave the classroom to get a drink of water. Water will also be needed in the classroom to water our plants and will be used in art projects.
Hanging Wall Art Posters
An atmosphere of artistic expression is both stimulating and inspiring. Surrounding my students with great art will encourage their own expression and also provide them with ideas for their own writing.
Word Processing Software
Microsoft suites will allow my students to utilize word processing and other studios in the classroom.
Security Cabinet for Laptops for 30 comps
I will need a secure area to store, protect, and store the classroom laptops.
Student Storage
Because there are no book baskets underneath the seats, my students need a place to put their books and writing portfolios. These bins also help keep the classroom clutter free and organized.
Filing Cabinet
This cabinet helps me organize assignments, papers, and grading rubrics.
Plants
Bringing nature into the classroom is important for meeting the needs of all students. The plants will add a naturalistic atmosphere and also bring life and vibrancy to the classroom.
